Submission Guidelines and Style
1. Preface
The University of Khartoum Engineering Journal (uofkej) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that publishes high-quality research in all fields of engineering. Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. All submissions must adhere to these guidelines to be considered for review.
2. Manuscript Submission
- Submissions must be made through the journal's online submission system using Open Journal Systems (OJS) on the journal website at http://uofkej.uofk.edu.
- Authors must register on the platform and complete all required metadata.
- All submissions should be in Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX (.tex) format.
3. Manuscript Structure
Submissions should be organized as follows:
- Title Page
- Title of the manuscript (concise and informative).
- Full names of all authors and their affiliations.
- Corresponding author's email address.
- ORCID IDs (if available).
- The title page should be submitted as a separate page.
- Abstract
- Maximum of 250 words.
- Should summarize objectives, methodology, results, and conclusions.
- Include 3-5 keywords.
- Main Text
- Introduction: Define the research problem, objectives, and significance.
- Methodology: Clearly describe materials, methods, and procedures.
- Results: Present findings with appropriate figures and tables.
- Discussion: Interpret results and relate them to existing literature.
- Conclusion: Summarize key findings and implications.
- Acknowledgments (if applicable)
- References
- Must follow the IEEE citation style (numbered format).
- Example: [1] A. Author, "Title of paper," Journal Name, vol. 10, no. 2, pp. 100-110, 2023.
- Appendices (if necessary)
4. Formatting Requirements
- Font: Times New Roman, size 12 for text, 10 for footnotes.
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides.
- Figures and tables should be numbered consecutively and include captions.
- Equations should be numbered and formatted using MathType or LaTeX.
5. Article Length Guidelines
- Full research articles: 5,000–8,000 words, with a maximum of 15 pages, including references, tables, and figures. A total of up to 8 figures and tables combined is allowed.
- Review articles: 6,000–10,000 words, with a maximum of 20 pages, including references, tables, and figures. A total of up to 10 figures and tables combined is allowed.
- Short communications or technical notes: 2,000–3,500 words, with a maximum of 8 pages, including references, tables, and figures. A total of up to 4 figures and tables combined is allowed.
6. AI Declaration
Authors are required to disclose any AI tools or models utilized in their research, ensuring full transparency regarding the methodology, including algorithms and data. Ethical considerations, such as data privacy and the explainability of AI-driven decisions, must be prioritized. Additionally, authors should ensure that human oversight is maintained for AI-driven decisions, especially in critical areas. Authors are also responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and ethical use of AI in their research, and must take accountability for any AI-driven outcomes.
7. Ethical Considerations
- Authors must ensure the originality of their work and avoid plagiarism.
- Any conflicts of interest should be disclosed.
- All research involving human or animal subjects must have appropriate ethical approval.
8. Peer Review Process
- Each submission is reviewed by three independent reviewers.
- The review process typically takes one month from the date of submission.
- Authors will receive feedback and may be asked to revise their manuscripts accordingly.
9. Publication Timeline
- Accepted manuscripts will be published within three months of final acceptance.
- All articles are published under an open-access policy.
- Articles are made available online as soon as they are accepted, reviewed, and formatted, without waiting for a specific issue, (rolling publication).
